During a recent Reddit AMA, Spawn creator Todd McFarlane was asked if he would be willing to allow the developers of Mortal Kombat 11 to feature his character in their game. McFarlane responded, “I believe he is on his way…” Considering it sounds like the developers have already requested and obtained McFarlane’s permission to use the character, you can expect Spawn to make an appearance in the upcoming Mortal Kombat game.

Ed Boone, co-creator of the Mortal Kombat franchise, has been hinting for years that Spawn would eventually appear in the franchise. Boone has also tweeted numerous times about adding the character Mortal Kombat’s roster. It seems like it will finally happen after all this time.

This wouldn’t be the first time Spawn has appeared as a bonus character in a fighting game. Spawn appeared in Soulcalibur 2 for the Xbox. Each separate console version of the game received a special bonus character. Gamecube players received Link from the Zelda franchise, and Playstation gamers received Heihachi from the Tekken franchise. Injustice, another fighting franchise from the developers of Mortal Kombat, features a guest appearance from the Ninja Turtles.

Fans of the Spawn franchise have more to look forward to in 2019 than an appearance in the Mortal Kombat franchise. Todd McFarlane is making his directorial debut with a new Spawn film. The new movie will star Jamie Foxx, and has been in the works for years.

Mortal Kombat X featured several guest characters in its roster. Among them were Jason, Alien, Predator, and Leatherface from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise. The development of each of these guest fighters were very well executed, making them some of the most entertaining characters in the game. Hopefully, Mortal Kombat 11 will feature even more guest characters this time around, including Todd McFarlane’s Spawn.
