President Trump Rips BuzzFeed and Huffington Post Following Layoffs

Earlier today, President Trump poked fun at BuzzFeed and the Huffington Post on Twitter. BuzzFeed announced last week that it will be laying off about 15% of its staff, around 220 people. The Huffington Post laid off 20 employees on Thursday.

BuzzFeed’s layoffs follow their disputed reporting from last Friday. BuzzFeed claimed to have obtained documents from Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team regarding alleged crimes pertaining to President Trump and his former attorney Michael Cohen. Hours after BuzzFeed published their report, Robert Mueller’s office released a statement calling BuzzFeed’s reporting “not accurate.”

Verizon Media, the parent company of the Huffington Post, terminated about 7% of its staff. The company’s other brands include AOL and Yahoo, with about 800 employees being laid off this week. The left-leaning outlets frequently criticize President Trump, who celebrated the announcements.

In the aftermath of their recent layoffs, BuzzFeed is reportedly considering a merger with corporate giant Group Nine Media. The media company’s trademarks include Thrillist, NowThis, and The Dodo. According to several reports, many of the remaining employees at BuzzFeed and the Huffington Post are extremely unhappy about the recent downsizing.
