President Trump Lashes Out at Fox News in Series of Tweets

On Sunday evening, President Trump unleashed a fury of disparaging tweets aimed at Fox News. The president attacked the network’s weekend lineup of anchors and accused the outlet of betraying its viewers. Although this wasn’t the first time President Trump has criticized Fox, he has never hit the organization quite this hard.

The president’s tweets came just a few hours after Fox News aired a segment from a bar in France as the US Women’s National Team won the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Patrons of the bar began chanting “f-ck Trump” as Fox News senior foreign affairs correspondent Greg Palkot reported live from the event. The chant was repeated multiple times before the feed was cut.

President Trump has bashed Fox anchors Shepard Smith and Chris Wallace multiple times in the past. Smith, a daytime news anchor on the channel, frequently targets the president for criticism on his show. Although President Trump appeared to be friends with Fox News senior judicial analyst Andrew Napolitano in the past, their relationship has clearly soured since Napolitano began strongly criticizing the Trump administration on the network.

While it’s possible that yesterday’s live coverage from the bar in France was the straw that broke the president’s relationship with Fox News, the animosity seems to have been building for quite some time. President Trump has been increasingly complimentary toward One America News, a right-leaning outlet carried by most cable providers. The president has tweeted about the network multiple times, recently retweeting comments from two of the network’s anchors about the “Salute to America” Fourth of July celebration in Washington DC.
