President Trump Goes After Freshman Democrats in Series of Controversial Tweets

Early Sunday morning, President Trump launched a barrage of Twitter attacks against four freshman Congresswomen. The four members of the US House of Representatives having been feuding with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi since their decision to vote against a bipartisan measure to provide emergency funding toward the border. The Democratic congresswomen were the only members of the House to vote against the bill.

Many have speculated that President Trump’s tweets were intended to amp up the feud between the fellow Democrats or at least perpetuate the conflict. However, even some of the president’s supporters have suggested that the controversial tweets might end up having the opposite effect, essentially helping to repair the rift between Democrats in Congress.

President Trump insists he was simply venting his frustration about the Congresswomen’s history of “anti-American” statements. The series of tweets, which encouraged the Democratic members of Congress to “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came,” have been accused of racism. The president, however, has denied that his tweets were racist.
