In a series of controversial retweets on Saturday afternoon, President Trump reacted to news of Jeffrey Epstein’s death. One tweet described how documents were released, just one day prior to Epstein’s alleged suicide, implicating high-profile Democrats in his purported crimes. Another tweet expressed doubt that Epstein would be capable of killing himself in prison, suggesting the Clintons were somehow involved in his death.

Epstein’s alleged sex crimes are too numerous and disturbing to document in their entirety in this article. Authorities first began investigating the wealthy predator in 2005. In 2008, as part of a plea deal, Epstein pleaded guilty to a charge of procuring a prostitute under the age of 18.

As a result of the conviction, Epstein was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment. However, he ultimately served less than 13 months. Instead of being sent to a Florida state prison, Epstein resided in a private wing of the Palm Beach County jail. During the final 9 months of Epstein’s imprisonment, he was allowed to leave the jail on “work release” for up to 12 hours a day, 6 days a week.

Many have wondered how Epstein was able to achieve such a generous deal considering the charges against him. According to an investigative report from the Miami Harold, Epstein may have covertly filmed high-profile individuals engaging in illegal sex acts on his property. New York Magazine has even suggested that Epstein may have accumulated much of his fortune by blackmailing his wealthy acquaintances.

On July 6, 2019, Epstein was arrested in New Jersey on sex trafficking charges related to the previous investigation. Federal authorities were able to charge Epstein based on information that was not covered by his previous plea deal. A search of his property, conducted by the FBI, uncovered photographs of underage girls and a counterfeit Austrian passport.

In light of Epstein’s past experiences with the criminal justice system and his potential trove of blackmail, many Americans have been expressing skepticism over the details concerning his death. Apparently, President Trump is among the skeptics. In a video retweeted by the president, conservative commentator Terrence Williams suggests the Clintons were responsible for Epstein’s death.
