A small movement encouraging the boycott of Home Depot has developed in response to co-founder Bernie Marcus’ recent statements to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Marcus told the outlet that he plans on supporting President Trump again in 2020. Many have criticized the boycott, considering Marcus has already donated billions of dollars to various charities.

The 90-year-old Home Depot co-founder has an estimated net worth of nearly $6 billion. He was one of several mega donors to help fund the 2016 Trump presidential campaign. Marcus donated about $7 million towards Trump’s 2016 election.

“The truth is he has produced more than anybody else. He has. If we look at this country, I would say that we are better off today than we were eight years ago or six years ago,” Marcus told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Reports suggest Marcus has donated more than $2 billion to over 300 organizations in his lifetime, saying he plans on donating the majority of his wealth while he’s still alive. The businessman also claims that 80 to 90 percent of his fortune will go to the Marcus Foundation following his death, where it will then be distributed to other organizations.

President Trump took to Twitter last night to thank Marcus and condemn his critics. The president attacked his opponents for promoting boycotts and suggested his followers support Home Depot financially. The boycott did attract at least one celebrity proponent, 3rd Rock from the Sun‘s Kristen Johnston.
