Fox’s Andrew Napolitano: Former CIA Director Brennan May Have Perjured Himself

Earlier this week, Fox News senior judicial analyst Andrew Napolitano accused former director of the Central Intelligence Agency John Brennan of potentially perjuring himself. Napolitano’s accusation on Maria Bartiromo’s Fox Business program followed a clip of former House Judiciary Committe Chairman Trey Gowdy claiming to have seen information that contradicts Brennan’s testimony to the House Intelligence Committee. The questions regarding potential perjury center around Brennan’s purported use of the Steele dossier to target the 2016 Trump campaign for investigation.

Gowdy’s claim seems to involve an alleged classified email from former FBI Director James Comey claiming that Brennan was insistent upon including the Steele dossier in the intelligence assessment concerning allegations of collusion between Russia and the 2016 Trump campaign. If Brennan did insist upon including the Steele dossier, that contradicts his earlier claims to the House Intelligence Committee.

During his testimony to the committee, Brennan was directly asked about the use of the Steele dossier in regards to the intelligence assessment. Brennan responded, “No, it wasn’t part of the corpus of intelligence information that we had. It was not in any way used as a basis for the intelligence community’s assessment that was done.”

Napolitano reacted to Gowdy’s claims about the email by stressing that Comey’s allegation wouldn’t necessarily prove that Brennan actually made such statements. Napolitano did concede that if the allegations are true, they do clearly contradict what Brennan said while under oath. Going even further, Napolitano suggested the former CIA Director may have perjured himself in an attempt to “make himself look good.”

Brennan, now an MSNBC contributor, has been a consistent critic of President Trump since his election. The White House announced last year that Brennan’s security clearance was being pulled due to “erratic behavior.” However, according to a recent report in the New York Times, a source within the Trump administration claims the White House never followed through with the threat.
