US Senator Elizabeth Warren has announced the creation of an exploratory committee for the 2020 presidential election. The exploratory committee will allow Warren to raise contributions while deciding whether or not to launch an official run for the presidency. Senator Warren made the announcement in front of her home, and later live streamed via Instagram while drinking a beer in her kitchen.

Senator Warren’s 2020 aspirations have been met with mixed reviews. Left-leaning outlets, like CNN and MSNBC, were fairly supportive of the decision. Fox News, on the other hand, was much more critical of the move. Although, that could be expected from the notoriously partisan 24-hour news outlets.

President Trump, who has engaged in several highly publicized exchanges with the senator in the past, also reacted the news. The president commonly refers to Warren as “Pocahontas,” due to her now debunked claim of Native American heritage. Warren recently took a DNA test, which determined she has less Native American ancestry than the average American. Warren listed herself as a Native American to the Association of American Law Schools, and was presented as being Native American by Harvard University while she was a professor there.

In a recent interview with Fox News’ Pete Hegseth on New Year’s Eve, President Trump was asked about Warren’s candidacy. When Hegseth inquired if President Trump believes Warren thinks she can win, the president told him to “ask her psychiatrist.” President Trump also stated it would be wonderful if Warren was to win the nomination, implying he believes she’s one of the weakest candidates the Democrats have to offer.

Elizabeth Warren is a former attorney and law professor. She was elected by Massachusetts voters to the US Senate in 2012, and reelected in 2018. Warren is the first high-profile candidate to announce a 2020 presidential exploratory committee.
