Democratic Congressman Jeff Van Drew may have surprised a few Fox News viewers when he praised President Trump’s recent deal with Mexico while appearing on the network. Van Drew distanced himself from others in his party during the interview by expressing his opposition to the idea of open borders. The congressman is a member of the Problem Solvers Caucus, a bi-partisan organization in the US House of Representatives that includes nearly 50 members.

President Trump had previously suggested a 5% tariff on all Mexican products. The tariffs would then increase every month until an agreement between the two nations was met, with a maximum proposed increase of 25%.

On Wednesday, June 5, President Trump tweeted that tariffs would begin Monday if an agreement could not be reached. On Friday, the president again tweeted that tariffs would start Monday if a deal wasn’t struck by then.

Less than six hours after his Friday tweet, an agreement was reached between the US and Mexico. The US essentially agreed to suspend tariffs against Mexico in exchange for assistance with border security.
