During an interview with Fox News, former Clinton campaign adviser Doug Schoen was asked about recent comments from Hillary Clinton suggesting she may run for president again. Schoen said that although he had not talked to Clinton directly, he had spoken to multiple individuals who have directly heard from her that she is considering another run for president. With such a potentially crowded field in the Democratic primaries, Schoen says she may have a very good chance of winning the nomination once again.

While some on the left have been welcoming toward the idea, many have condemned Clinton for suggesting the thought of another campaign for the presidency. Although Clinton won the popular vote in the 2016 presidential election, she was far from defeating Donald Trump in the electoral college. Trump won the presidency with 306 electoral votes to Clinton’s 232.

For those critical of Clinton’s potential 2020 campaign, they do not see much opportunity for a different result this time around. Following her defeat in 2016, Clinton was condemned by many on the left for underestimating the Trump campaign. She has also been criticized for not campaigning more heavily in several swing states, where many took for granted that she would win.

Clinton has repeatedly blamed former FBI Director James Comey for her 2016 defeat. Less than two weeks before the election, Comey announced that new information had been obtained by the FBI regarding Clinton’s email scandal. As a result, Comey declared that the investigation had been reopened.

Two days before the 2016 election, Comey announced in a letter to congress that the investigation was complete. He stated that the FBI’s previous conclusion was not changed as a result of the investigation being reopened. Although Clinton was cleared of wrongdoing by Comey before the election, she says the earlier announcement had already caused irreversible damage.

Of course, Clinton has also been vocal about Wikileaks’ release of hacked emails damaging to her campaign. On numerous occasions, Clinton has directly blamed Russia for the hacking. She has also repeatedly called President Trump a “puppet” of Vladimir Putin’s.

Since the 2016 election, Clinton has been active with numerous speaking engagements. She also published a book in 2017 detailing her experiences during the 2016 campaign. Clinton would be the most notable Democrat to enter the 2020 field so far, although, Bernie Sanders is expected to announce his candidacy sometime in February.
