Apparently, throwing food and beverages at conservative politicians is a growing trend in Europe. Police in Scotland asked a local McDonald’s not to serve milkshakes Saturday due to a nearby event for Brexit leader Nigel Farage. Burger King responded to the controversy on Twitter, shamelessly encouraging Farage’s attackers to purchase milkshakes from their restaurant.

Farage was eventually struck with a milkshake at the event but it wasn’t one of Burger King’s. It turned out to be a banana and salted caramel shake from Five Guys. The attacker was quickly apprehended by police.

This isn’t Burger King’s first time getting political, although it does seem to be their first time advocating violence against their political opponents. Earlier this year, the burger chain produced a commercial promoting net neutrality legislation. Burger King faced some backlash from customers for their advertisement, but nothing like the reaction they’ve seen from their recent tweet.

The tweet has angered many of the fast food restaurant’s customers, but they haven’t deleted it yet. The corporate giant did, however, address the controversy later that day. Their follow up tweet insists the company would never endorse political violence. Judging by the response to the tweet, many are unimpressed with the way the company has addressed the matter.
