Bitcoin represents more than half the total cryptocurrency market cap for the first time since around Christmas 2017. A recent decline in crypto prices are likely the driving force behind investors choosing to move their investments from various altcoins to Bitcoin. Although the crypto market cap was above half a trillion dollars around the holidays, it has decreased in value by more than 50% since then.

With a market cap of over $200 billion, plenty of people are still investing in cryptocurrency. Although the markets have dipped sharply in 2018, the price of Bitcoin remains about 25% higher than it was a year ago. In fact, the price of Bitcoin is about ten times higher now than it was just two years ago. Will the crypto markets spike again in the near future or will it continue to decline? Only time will tell.
